We talk with our friends about all kinds of stuff. In the same way, we should talk to God about everything that is happening in our lives and how we feel about it. God wants us to tell him when we are happy, sad, and afraid. He wants us to ask him what we want for others and for ourselves. Also when we pray, we give God an opportunity to work on us. God has told us to pray. Our prayers show that we obey and trust him to work in our lives.
You can talk to God wherever you are, at any time. But we need special times and places to pray everyday, in order to help us get into the habit of talking with God.
Today, we are going to make Prayer Rocks to serve as a reminder to pray every day.
(Pass around circles of cloth, about 8" in diameter. [We used material with little hearts on it to show that Jesus is in our
hearts.], a small stone, and curling ribbon for each child. Tie the rock in the cloth
and curl the ribbon. Read the Prayer Rock Poem and give a copy to each
child.)
(Editor's note: The Prayer Rock Poem is available on the Archives List page
#111.)
