DISCUSSION Before Playing WWJS:
WWJD? is a popular slogan worn and displayed by Christians of all
ages on bracelets, t-shirts, tote bags, bumper stickers and various
other products. However, I have seen these worn or displayed by people
that have acted in very non-Christian ways! What do you think of
someone that says they believe a certain way, but act differently? Can
you trust someone like that? Why would someone your age wear the
slogan WWJD, and NOT act like a Christ follower, a Christian? None of
us are perfect. In fact, we all blow it sometimes by acting in ways that are
not Christ-like. But, we all need to examine our hearts daily and see if our
actions and our words are consistent with Christ's teachings. If they
aren't, Jesus tells us to repent, which means to turn from our sin and
turn to him. Jesus promises to forgive us and to cleanse our hearts.
His Spirit will help us to follow him when we ask him for help.
First, it is important to consider, How do we learn What
Jesus Would Do? The primary way we learn
about God is by reading his Word and studying it. ("Show me your ways, O LORD,
teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me..." Psalm 25:4-5.)
In other words, we must first know What Jesus Would Say? (WWJS?)
before we can know what he would do. We learn what God says, by
reading his Word and going to church. It is very important to know
that what you are being taught is consistent with what the Bible says. The Bible
is ALWAYS the final authority. The Bible says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Set Up: You'll need at least 4 index cards, string,
clothespins, and rubber bands. On one side of each of your index cards
write the letters, "W", "W", "J", and
"D". (Make more of these WWJD card sets for team play, or
for large groups.)
On the reverse side of each card write a discussion question
such as:
"What does it mean to do to others as you would have them
do to you?"
"What is your natural response when you have been
treated wrong by others? Explain how you can change your natural
response into a supernatural response."
"How can you make your actions and words match your beliefs
about God? Explain."
"Is it easy to follow Jesus when you're with friends that don’t believe in God? Why or why not?"
"When might your right actions (kindness, generosity, fairness)
give you the opportunity to talk about Jesus?"
"Is it more important for a young person or an adult to do
what Jesus would do? Explain."
"Could someone's wrong actions or unkind words ever turn
someone off from believing in God? Explain."
"When is a time kids your age might NOT want to love and obey God?
Explain."
"What can kids your age do to help others learn about Jesus?"

How To Play:
Tape the index cards to the end of each of the clothespins (the
part that you pinch). Attach the string in your room to hang across
one end of the room (not against the wall). Clip the pins holding the
index cards onto the string with the WWJD letters facing the players.
Determine a 'shooting line' 2-4 feet). Players take turns shooting a
rubber band at the cards. If a player hits a card, turn it around and
discuss the question with the group. If you're playing in teams, that
team must respond. If a player doesn't hit a card, play passes to the
next person or team. Play continues like this until all the cards are
turned over and discussed. If you're playing on teams, the team to hit
all the cards and discuss them, is the winning team! However, even if
you're playing on teams, give everyone the opportunity to participate
in the discussion time.
