Bible Point: Prayer - There is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ
Jesus.
Set Up: Establish a large, square, playing area. Place a
cone or marker at each of the four outer corners of the playing area.
At the center of the area set up a cross, the larger the better. (We
made ours from long cardboard tubes and wrapped it with black tape.)
Divide players into four teams. Give each team a Post-It notes pad and
pencils for every player.
Before The Game: Ask the players, "What is prayer? What
should we pray about?" (Allow time for discussion) Prayer is speaking
to God. We are to spend time praising and thanking God for who he is
and what's he's done for us. We are to confess our sins to him (1 John
1:9). To confess means to admit, or to agree, that we have sinned
against God. We are to ask God to supply all of our needs (Philippians
4:19). We can also pray for other people. This is called intercession.
We can tell God when we are having a good day or a bad day. We can ask
him for help. We can speak to God about anything!
The Bible tells us that Jesus is our mediator. What do you think
mediator means? (Allow time for discussion) A mediator is a
go-between; someone who stands in the middle of two people or two
parties and settles a dispute. A mediator is a peace-maker. Before
Jesus came to earth the people of God had to go to a High Priest to
have their sins forgiven. But now, the Bible tells us that Jesus has
made peace with God by dying on the cross to cleanse us of our sins
(Colossians 1:22-23). By dying for us, he has made it possible for us
to go directly to God when we pray. We no longer have to pray to
anyone else, or to anything else, to have our prayers heard. This is
what the Bible says:
READ: I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Have the players sit with their teams. Have each player write a
prayer on a separate Post-It note. Tell the players their prayers can
be praise and thanksgiving prayers to God, they can be confessions,
they can be about themselves, or about others. No one else needs to
read your prayer. (Older players may need to help younger players
write their prayer. Or, have younger players draw their prayer.)
Tell the players that the cross in the middle of the playing area
represents Jesus, our Mediator. We will be taking our prayers directly
to him.
How To Play: Have the teams line up behind each of the four
cones. At the go, the first player from each team must race to the
cross, kneel down on both knees, and place their Post-It note prayer
onto the cross. Players return to their team line to tag off to the
next player in line. Play continues as such until everyone has taken
their prayers to Jesus, our Mediator!
How To Win: The first team to finish posting all their
prayers, wins!
